* DEVIN * maple & walnut chess set designed by Oskar Kogoj |
Oskar Andrej Kogoj is a world known industrial designer, academyst and above all an artist, born on 23. November 1942. His gallery is placed in restored house of his mother in Miren close to Nova Gorica. Since 1970 he has attended many independent shows, while his work is presented in more then 100 museums all over the world. With more than 350 exibits in his homeland and abroad, he received more than 50 rewards for his excellent work.
Designing chess sets has presented him with a new challenge, which he mastered perfectly. In his unique style, searching for inspiration in the gifts of Mother Nature, knowing world history and secret symbols, he created unique, but still very playable chess sets.
The basic design of inspiration is visible on every step; outside line form along with king, queen and bishop's finials all follow the shape of an egg. While creating the knight (horse), he found inspiration in the world-known Slovenian horse sort, the lipicans. But do not overlook the smallest details, such as the water drop on the pawn's top and almost invisible hole in the king's cross, presenting the cross in his basic form.
